I bought a Traeger Texas Elite smoker today and decided to not only put it together but cook on it also, videoing my experience.

The grill was purchased at Costco and the salesman Daniel was great, he made buying the grill less scary since it was the most expensive grill I ever bought. I actually bought the smaller grill first and then after talking to my wife we decided to get the bigger one. a quick trip back to Costco and the exchange was done.

I defrosted two Tri-tips the night before in anticipation of smoking them and hoping they would at least be edible. I’ve been wrong before (just ask my wife) and gratefully I was wrong again.

The grill was easy to assemble and even easier to smoke on. I put my own rub on the Tri-tip and let it sit for a while during the initial break in firing of the grill (about 1 hour, only the first time you put it together).

I was pleased with the fact it doesn’t smoke out the backyard but gives the meat the full flavor of being smoked. I followed basic grilling techniques and the Tri-tips came out phenomenally.

I’m from Texas, living in California and there is not any good BBQ places here (sorry Phil’s BBQ). The BBQ here is only flavored by drenching it in sauce and it’s dry. This meat was juicy and flavorful without any sauce (as good BBQ should be).

Am I glad I purchased the grill? YES! I am now thinking that for retirement I could be a pit master because this grill makes it so easy. Well maybe not a pit master however I could do catering because with just one taste of this BBQ, you’re hooked!
