My Oklahoma Joe’s Highland Offset Smoker modifications I made based on listening to other, more experienced owners. Parts:
1 Thermometer from Walmart
2- 6×24 inch sheet metal from Lowes
2- 12×24 inch sheet metal from Lowes
2- 6×24 Expanded Metal sheets from TSC
4 metal Corner Braces – Local Hardware store
1- 3 inch Dryer Vent Lowes
1 Roll of Nylon Heat Tape Amazon
1 tube of black heat proof putty amazon
My batteries died between the 1st and 2nd video, so I just put them together. In between videos I had fired it up and seasoned it, also checked the temps and they are 2 degrees off. Pretty close I think for someone who is just starting.
This uses briskets or wood, maybe I should say plus wood. It can be used as a grill or smoker and use fuel you can pick up in the woods if desired. This is a Prepper’s perfect idea, for those who plan to bug in rather than bug out, be it civil unrest or a natural disaster. It doesn’t need electricity, pellets, or gas, all of which would be rare in a SHTF scenario.
For now though I’ll have to learn how to operate this after using an electric smoker. I love this way of cooking though, slow, pure, and with countless options on flavor. This is like food in art form, your mind is your only limitation in what flavors you create.
