How it is build:
The motor is from an old electric wheelchair, build into a home made wooden box with different fittings made from metal, wood and scrapped bike parts. In addition to the ON/OFF switch on the side of the motor, I have made wired button so that you can sit a few meters away from it all, while maintaining control of the roasting situation.
The spear is made out of stainless steel and holes are made to mount additional transverse spears for better fastening of meat. Wooden protectors for the ends are made so that people don’t get hurt. Safety first! 🙂
The supporting towers holding the spear are made out of wood and mounted into a 20 liter bucket where these are fastened in the bottom and top of the bucket, using transverse metal rods. This makes the entire setup stable, light weight and easy to assemble. If necessary, the buckets can be filled up with sand or whatever to make it all even more stable when preparing heavy loads of meat.
The height of the spear can easily be adjusted by moving the ball bearing supported blocks up and down as you prefer. Finally the placing and removal of the spear is an easy task as it freely rests on top of the ball bearings.
All in all the setup works really well and it is a funny project that will contribute to many good hours when cooking in the garden, on the beach or whatever you want to do.
Let me know what you think or have any questions in the comments.
Cheers 🙂
