Your fire pit will require a propane gas source, whether using a typical BBQ propane tank or stubbed hard pipe propane line. The gas line will need to connect to a Key Valve which is best installed in the side of your fire pit. This key valve is required in most states and promotes safety since the key is removable. Starfire Direct recommends whistle free stainless steel flex lines to connect the key valve to the propane air mixer. The air mixer then connects to your stainless steel pan which drops into your fire pit opening. The pan rests on a small ledge approximately 2-4″ below the top of your fire pit. The stainless steel fire ring then mounts directly to the stainless steel pan with the holes facing up. Water drainage will occur thru the weep holes in the pan. Finally, pour your fireglass onto the pan to cover the fire ring.
For propane gas to work properly with fireglass, it is important to take note of the following principles:
Propane gas must mix with Air prior to combustion in order to burn properly. For this, Air intake is essential. We recommend ample ventilation located at the very bottom of your fire pit. This allows air to reach the air mixer which is attached under the burner pan. As the propane travels to the burner, air is sucked into the air mixer to dilute the propane. This process produces a cleaner and more efficient burning flame.Starfire Direct always recommends you test all of your connections prior to installing the fireglass.
Your installation is complete! Light your fireglass using a safety lighter and slowly turning the valve key to the “on” position.
