To make leather, rawhide, buckskin, or prepare a skin for taxidermy you first need to flesh your hide. This video shows how to flesh a deer skin to remove all the meat, fat, and membrane to prepare the skin for tanning.
This easy process will work for deer, raccoons and other fur bearers, squirrels,etc. It is the first step in tanning animal skins. In future videos we will cover how to make rawhide, how to tan a skin with the hair on, vegetable tan and other hide tanning methods.
Hide tanning is a fun way to use more of the animals we harvest, as well as advance your primitive skills, homesteading, bushcraft, survival, and self reliance skills.
