Step by step instruction guide on how to make the coolest rocket stove on YouTube. Introducing the beer keg rocket stove. Rocket stoves are relatively small but energy efficient stoves that use small diameter wood (Twigs, sticks ect.) the stove uses the intense raising heat from the burn camber in the chimney to create a strong draw of air from the air intake which can cause a “rocket sound” when running well.
In this video I show you how to make you own beer keg rocket stove then we take it outside and see how long it takes to boil a pot of water. While we wait for the pot to boil the inferred temperature gun will tell us how well the stove is functioning.
This video is going to be the first of a short series of camp stove videos on the GearsNTools channel. The goal to compare several homemade stove options to some manufactured options such as the Kelly Kettle, Pocket Rocket, and other camp stoves. This Rocket Stove is going to be a bench mark item that will be shown in future videos when we compare performance, pros and cons of these various camp stove options. It you have a favorite camp stove you would like me to build or review please let me know and I will feature it on my channel.
The first firing of the stove was a success, the pot did boil, but barely, it would stop boiling as soon as the lid was removed. Next time I run this rocket stove I will use a pot holder that sits closer to the flame and smaller diameter wood. The wood pieces used in this video were too large and the stove vented a lot of heat that didn’t make it to the pot.
